Nebraska Community Blood Bank (NCBB.ORG), a division of Innovative Blood Resources (www.innovativebloodresources.org), has been saving and sustaining lives since 1968. We are dedicated to connecting people who need life-saving blood with generous volunteers who give. Operating 4 donor centers and conducting dozens of blood drives each month, we are proud to be an independent nonprofit that supplies over 20 area hospitals and clinics with life-saving blood—from our community, for our community.

Responsibilities

Summary:

This position involves donor screening, customer service, and whole blood collection. All protocols are clearly documented and taught using inclusive and recurring training sessions. A phlebotomist in this position might work at a fixed donor center location or at various community sites via mobile blood drives and will work with a variety of donors each shift. 

Schedule: Variable schedule: Monday - Sunday.  Hours vary from 6:00am - 8:00pm. 

 

 

Job Responsibilities: 

  1. Assesses and documents vitals of donor; qualifies donor responses on questionnaires to determine eligibility of donor.
  2. Performs blood collections in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
  3. Follows safety procedures.
  4. Provides excellent customer service and pre/post donation care as needed.
  5. Assists with the set-up of blood drive, including the safe loading/unloading of mobile units.
  6. Performs cleaning tasks, including equipment cleaning.
  7. Ensures accuracy, acceptability, and completeness of documentation to prevent loss of units.
  8. Attends and participates in staff meetings and trainings.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Local travel. Must have reliable transportation to and from work assignments 
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift and/or move up to 40 pounds
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts
  • Preferred: Specialized training beyond high school such as phlebotomy, nursing assistant, medial assistant, EMT or one year of college coursework
