Overview

Memorial Blood Centers (MBC.ORG), a division of Innovative Blood Resources (www.innovativebloodresources.org), has been saving and sustaining lives since 1948. We supply blood and blood components, state-of-the-art laboratory services, and biomedical expertise to area healthcare partners, national blood centers, biotechnology companies, research institutions, and international clients. Operating 10 donor centers and conducting hundreds of blood drives each month, we are proud to be an independent nonprofit that supplies over 30 area hospitals and more than a dozen air ambulances with life-saving blood—from our community, for our community. 

Responsibilities

Summary:

Responsible for outreach to our community through volunteer engagement. Coordinates the volunteer lifecycle of the volunteer community who play a critical role in supporting blood collection operations and donor services. This position serves as a vital connection between volunteers and staff. The role will develop volunteer engagement strategies, maintain compliance with regulatory standards, and promote a culture of service and appreciation.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Coordinate the volunteer lifecycle, ensuring effective recruitment, retention and recognition of volunteers.

  • Recruit, interview, onboard, and train new volunteers to ensure readiness and alignment with organizational needs.
  • Enhance volunteer retention by coordinating schedules, providing necessary resources, and maintaining clear, consistent communication
  • Foster volunteer recognition through ongoing engagement, regular appreciation initiatives, and creating a volunteer culture of community and service.

Provide ongoing supervision and support to volunteers, addressing questions, resolving issues, and promoting a positive volunteer experience.

  • In alignment with organizational policies manage volunteer performance, set clear expectations, address behavioral issues, provide coaching and corrective actions as needed.
  • When necessary, manage volunteer discipline, reassignment, or dismissal.

Collaborate with staff and leadership to evaluate and identify volunteer engagement opportunities and integrate volunteer utilization across the organization.

Maintain volunteer database including volunteer records and service data

Report on volunteer key performance indicators to articulate and evaluate the volunteer program to organizational stakeholders. 

 

Location Details:

This role primarily works from the St. Paul office location with opportunity to work hybrid. Local travel will be required for training, job shadowing and community relations opportunities in the Metro and Duluth area.

 

The annual rate for this position is between $70,000 - 80,000.

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or GED

Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Nonprofit Management, Marketing or related field preferred

 

Experience: 4 years of experience working with volunteers or in a community engagement role

 

Other: Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook

Computer desktop applications and computer software systems

Effective written and oral communication skills

Attention to detail and organization skills

Media Relations experience 

Persuasiveness and follow through

Volunteer database management and reporting preferred
