Summary:
The Director, Technical Operations will work towards driving process excellence at the regional level of the New York Blood Center Enterprises Collection (NYBCe). The role will support process improvement initiatives and be the regional representative for Enterprise initiatives, ensuring fidelity to the established process while communicating to the Enterprise Collections Center of Excellence (ECCOE) needs and risks at the regional level.
The role will require a novel, innovative, and creative approach toward technical operations management, identifying opportunities for standardization and ensuring NYBCe remains “best in class” within the industry. A collaborative approach will be required to identify methods for NYBCe Technical Services to capitalize on economies of scale throughout the Collections.
The role will drive collaboration across regional lines, manage remote teams, mentor the growth of team members for succession planning, and seek out methods to ensure communication is effective as well as motivation for the team that enhances the employee experience. The role will support the Vice President of ECCOE in budget creation and compliance initiatives.
The role will also provide oversight to Blood Collections Learning at the regional level.
The position will collaborate with leaders within the ECCOE as well as regional Collections, Laboratories, Information Technology, Medical and Quality/Regulatory Affairs (QRA) as well as external vendors.
Job Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Provides leadership and oversees ancillary Collections departments – Technical Services and Blood Collections Learning.
- Fosters a collaborative and cooperative team culture.
- Ensures the team maintains a working knowledge of the blood collection process for all product types and the software systems and equipment used to complete the process.
- Develop and refine strategies to ensure efficient and effective operations including workflow processes, resource allocation, and technology utilization.
- Partners with ECCOE in establishing reporting format and metrics relating to all collection types and activities.
- Mentoring your team, providing training, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Oversees staff recruitment, training, and performance management to maintain high-quality service standards.
- Provides oversight in compliance to budgetary targets and ensures department needs for labor are identified and forwarded to the Vice President of ECCOE.
- Lead, coach, develop, and mentor staff providing oversight to Divisional Collections training collaborating with the Director of Blood Collections Learning Enterprise.
Technical Operations
- Oversees technical processes for Collections, including deviation reports, audits, error management, and competencies.
- Reviews and approves all follow-up actions in management systems and looks for related errors and trends.
- Works closely with collection leadership, QRA, and other department leaders to identify deficiencies and develop processes, policies, and procedures compliant with FDA and other agencies.
- Leads and promotes compliance with all regulations, guidelines, policies, procedures, and practices as they relate to the collections department.
- Works with ECCOE in the evaluation and implementation of initiatives that impact the donor process or operational solutions that result in increased efficiencies.
- Ensures performance of required apheresis instrument/product validation documents and licensure submissions.
- Monitors and provides key performance indicators to Collections’ leaders to facilitate the achievement of collection, quality, scheduling, and other operational goals.
- Ensures pre- and post-donation review processes are complete, and all information is captured, documented, and evaluated. Ensures collected blood products are appropriately managed based on review.
- Ensures final operational review is completed promptly.
- Collaborates with direct and indirect cross-functional partners to promote the effectiveness of quality and technical processes.
- Verifies donor reaction management information is reviewed and forwarded as appropriate.
Blood Collections Learning - Local
- Provides oversight in the management of the local Blood Collections Learning team and supports effective scheduling of training events. Ensures opportunities for training are abundant and coordinated with regional needs for hiring and promotion.
- Ensures training goals are met based on Enterprise goals and regional needs.
- Provides input into the creation of engaging and compelling course content that enhances not only retention of learned material but also retention of employees within NYBCe.
- Be the local champion of the delivery of training content and training methods as designed by ECCOE Blood Collections Learning.
- Ensures instructional goals and objectives meet regulatory standards, internal and external.
- Ensures training content correlates with Standard Operating Procedures without compromising the integrity of the curriculum.
The annual rate for this position is $100,000 - $115,000/yr.
